Wow. How much fun was PH this morning. :}

Fogged in, incredibly restrictive movement rate and departure slot bingo! :E

Kal must have thought they were under attack. What a day...

It was still 'fun' at 2300 this evening!

Looks like a carbon copy tomorrow morning. :sad:

Cut ya whinging! Beautiful sunny day today. Don't you know the forecasters simply forecast what happened yesterday? That way they are always 75% right! :}

Yup third world alright!!

I want to know where WagonAir (Air Asia X) went yesterday??

Also Thai were quizzed over and over again on their fuel state, was like pulling teeth apparently, not sure what the big secret was :=... interesting

Where did they come up with the 'one aircraft taxiing at a time' rule? Is it from MATS or just something they came up with in Perth?

And if you're going to restrict the use of the taxiways to one aircraft at a time, why not just use RWY 21 with a shorter taxi time (i.e. 3-4 mins) and double the rate you can get aircraft away :confused:

1. CASA changes to Aerodrome operating standards made last year.. essentially No Stop Bars = Restrict ops to one aircraft on manouevring area during low vis ops

2. 21 is our preferred runway for low vis ops but we cant nominate a wet runway if there is any downwind

Reference the Wagan Air guys, thai, & other INTL operators into Perth.

You must wonder what their thoughts are on operating into YPPH.

I don't operate much INTL flying, but wonder if they get the same run around abroad as they do here.

Bit of a thread drift, but the poor old Wagan Air guys seem to always have a lot of trouble meeting their slot time at JULIM inbound.

Also had a laugh when the Emirates crew quizzed PH ground: "Do you have a accurate RVR or just some guy down the end of the runway counting lights?

Cheers.

cac_sabre,

Thanks for the explanation on both those matters. All makes sense now and seems like there needs to be major changes to the infrastructure (i.e. stop bars) for any improvement in the movement rates during Low Vis Ops.

kimberleyex,

Airports like LAX and LHR are far better equipped to handle that sort of weather. Low Vis taxi routes, Stop Bars, better taxiway lighting, Ground Radar etc etc. But they do have many more movements, and many many more days with very low vis so the money spent on that sort of equipment is definitely justifiable.

As for airborne delays, (getting off topic) LAX achieve most of their separation through extra track miles and speed control in the terminal area - but they do have 4 parallel runways to play with! LHR when busy is amazing to watch and their controllers are top notch. 10-20 mins holding is about as bad as I've seen unless the weather is ****ty and they still only have 2 parallel runways.

To put it in perspective, number of movements in 2009:

LAX - 634,383
LHR - 466,393
PER - 118,704

Cheers

Nice one, so Perth wins for the most efficient delaying aerodrome.!!! :ok:

Thai decided to divert to Adelaide when they were unable to get in to PH only to discover about 45min into the trip to Adelaide they did not have enough fuel to make it, luckily by the time they made it back to PH the fog had cleared enough for them to get in.

Perth movements in 2010 were 124,640 and still experiencing growth in 2011 (on target for 130K).

While they have many more movements, they also benefit from rigidly controlled departure slots and traffic sequencing from all over Europe. It is not fair to just compare the numbers. Flight Focus take note. :=

Bloggs,
Only those departing from a European Airport could/will be delayed.
There is NO vectoring, extra track miles, speed control enroute for flights overflying European Airspace into LHR, the delays (if required) are introduced by London control on first contact, along with the STAR. There are 4 gate posts inbound and holding if required will generally be at one of these gate posts. from the UK AIP "no delay" means less than 10mins holding.
Extra slots are available into LHR during the day, especially for VVIP flights. The number of VVIP a/c in LHR for the recent wedding is testament to this.
