Can any training in a full vision sim be counted towards the issue of a JAA PPL?

i was just reading a document from a US school showing 10hrs of SIM time in a PPL course and was wondering if it was allowed either side of the pond?

An applicant for a JAR-FCL PPL(A) shall have completed

at least
45 hours flight time as a pilot of aeroplanes or
TMGs as appropriate. This must include the training
requirements specified below. A maximum of

5 hours
of these

45 hours may have been completed in a Basic
Instrument Training Device (BITD - see App 1 to JAR-FCL
1.125), Flight & Navigation Procedures Trainer (FNPT) or
a Flight Simulator. A FNPT or Flight Simulator used for this
purpose must be device qualified and user approved.

Cheers guys. Looked it up now I am back in range of LASORS. Clearly the 10hrs is to much though.

Bear in mind that BITD/FNPT training cannot replace any of the minimum 25hrs dual/10hrs solo flight training and that the cost of qualifying the device and gaining user approval is not insignificant, especially outside the 'JAA states'. Considering that the vast majority of PPL candidates require significantly in excess of 45 hours flight training to reach the required standard, a synthetic solution will probably not be cost effective.

I have been searching the documentation for the number of hours IF in a JAR PPL(A) Course, I have been unable to find a definative answer, in JAR PPL(H) 5 hours is required as per Lasors C2.2a i, but no simarly requirement appears for the PPL(A).
But you can use and approved sim for upto 5 hours on the PPL(A) course, what would you use it for, other than IF?
Can anyone point me to the definative answer, other than the requirement to perform a level 180 on instrument during the LST please

And the buggeration word is "approved" if you don't have the sim approval number in your log book they won't accept it.

There is no specific instrument flight time specified for the PPL(A). However, the NPPL (SSEA/SLMG) requires a minimum of 1 hour of instrument appreciation time.
