May seem like a bizarre question but we do not use the term 'base check' in my airline.

In other airlines, does this refer to a simulator refresher check or simply a line route check ?

Thanks.

Don't take this as the definitive answer but I believe a 'base' check is a simulator check ie at base and a 'line' check is a route check ie a check of your normal line operation. I don't know whether 'base' and 'line' are actually official terms or not but that is how I understand there use.

all change thanx to JAR. two sim rides per year reqd. one LPC (licence prof) one OPC (operator's prof). lpc is longer than opc. a line check is the 'doing your normal job on the line, in an aircraft' check. the IR is not a 'stand alone' item that it once was and is now part of the lpc. the base check to which you refer was the six-monthly affair which has now been replaced by the items above.. .that will be fifty quid please.
