Hello,

a simple question inspired by this particular aircraft I was invited to fly yesterday:

A pretty specific "livery" (paint job?) really………the owner loves it.

It got me thinking: do you spend money on a nice livery on your aircraft, or do you fly with whatever paint job that happened to be on it when you bought her?

I´m kitting out my own plane………and I spent some money on mine!
Then again, she was all white when I got it! I had to do something……….

Any interesting stories anyone? Pics?
Some good examples perhaps?

Cheers,

White is cool, literally.

Better not to add weight by painting it again. Just personalise it with vinyl graphics.

There is (in 2005, maybe still there?) a rather striking PA28 at Full Sutton G-ZEBY painted white with black Zebra stripes all over it! Photograph of Aircraft G-ZEBY (http://www.caa.co.uk/applicationmodules/ginfo/ginfo_photo.aspx?regmark=G-ZEBY&imgname=G-ZEBY001&imgtype=jpg)

The previous assembly of rivets and constant failures was pure all-over understated elegant white, which drew lots of impressed comment whichever ramp we'd pull up on. The new assembly of rivets and constant failures has been graced with some modernistic stripes, dreamed up by the owner's 'artist' friend. Just yet another stripey rich-man's-ride, now. My opinion can't be that far out, seeing as the old bird is still very much in evidence all over jetphotos.net, airliners.com, etc, whereas the new day-job hardly features, and we've been driving her for quite a while now.

Besides allover white, I've always thought that polished metal looks beautiful. Won't work on a plastic machine, obviously. If you want something truly unique, why not get some really outstanding graffiti-artists together, lock them into the hangar with your pride-and-joy for a day, and then spray transparent lacquer over the invariably stunning result? :}

Nope, factory livery on mine and no personalised reg. That way when I run out of money I get to sell it more easily (hopefully). When I was hunting for my aircraft, there were some that you just had to say 'what were they thinking?' and 'it's a bad idea to design a livery on a beermat'.

For myself I couldn't care less, you can't even see the paint job while flying the bird. Oh, yes of course, beg pardon, there are those that have a plane for showing off, yes there are.

For one paint job that's funny and well done and does NOT look like showing off, see File:Rans Coyote 59CEC.JPG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rans_Coyote_59CEC.JPG) - unless I am much mistaken, it is the homesteed of the instructor that moderated my today's pranks.
