After incurring a delay this morning due to "Engineers changing a tyre", how often would this take place? A/C 737

Goldie, this q is a bit like how long is a piece of string. It will depend on many factors as you can imagine. I would guess you have a bigger chance of having a delay on a 737/A320 due to short turnaround times, on the large a/c the wheel change would be absorbed in the time taken to do the refuel etc. you do get a certain amount of advance warning by monitoring the tyre wear however things such as deep cuts or loss of pressure cannot be foreseen.

Back to your question...

As far as I remember, a typical tire change (due to wear) rate on an A/C such as the DC-10, was after about 300 landings. This value would of course increase if the runways are wet, the aircraft light etc, etc, or decrease if there is regular crosswind, abrasive surfaces etc, etc.
