I have signed up to and have started studying the the CPL theory course with CATS, a great course I might add. Before I get questions of my motivation for doing the CPL and not ATPL its because I just want to go on to teach.
I am wondering if anyone out there has been through the CPL exams at Gatwick recently the first module on the list for me is Aircraft Gen Knowledge and I have to fly over from the US to do the exams, my question is whether as I have to travel whether you think I would be biting off more than I can chew to try to do a few other subjects at the same time as the Aircraft Gen exam whilst i am there for a few days, as I have to fly trans atlantic for just one exam ?

I did the CPLs with CATS a few years ago.

The reason that they put AGK by itself is that it covers a lot.

If you were going to try and do another exam at the same time there is the problem that you have to have completed the training and been put forward by your school. While doing the distance learning, for an extra subject, shouldn't be a problem the week residential brush up will only cover the "stage" you are going.

That said Stuart Smith is a great guy and very approachable - why not give him a call to discuss.

P.S. While you're over why not spend a couple of days doing some flying that's different from what you usually do. For example Tiger Moth / Aerobatics with the Tiger Club:

Or some gliding: Find a club (http://www.gliding.co.uk/findaclub/ukmap.htm)

In the not to distant past we would do the whole 14 ATPL exams over 2 sittings.

IIRC Bristol broke them down into 8 and 6. Think all of them had to be completed within 5 or 6 sittings - including any resits required. Not sure if thats still the case or if its any different with the CPL exams.

thanks, after looking a bit more at the amount to take in for the subject I am starting to think think that just that one might be enough. A huge amount of info to digest. But very interesting.
