I seem to recall being told that once off blocks, if you have to subsequently return to stand for a technical reason, the sector should be logged along the lines of, for example, KEWR - KEWR; 0900 - 0920

Can anyone either confirm this notion, or correct me please?

Seem to remember the term "first moves under its own power for the purpose of taking off" applies here. i think you can log it, but whether you would bother is another matter. The aircraft tech log (if applicable) would be marked as "not flown" and a new column/sheet started.

Yes it's definitely a log-bookable event but the airline will not consider it a sector!

Seems correct but can you imagine telling your crewing dept that you have just done a sector so cannot complete your other four that day?

Would love to hear that conversation.

From my company's FOM....

"Sector: A flight or portion of a flight consisting of a take-off and a landing"

I'm guessing that a Sector - without at Take-off or Landing involved - probably doesn't hold a lot of merit.

Yes, you are! One leg( from block to block) is one line in ATLB.
