Elmsett Airfield, Suffolk: Open Day and Fly-In Saturday, 19th September 2009

Fly in to one of East Anglia’s most attractive airfields for the Fly-In and Open Day on Saturday, 19th September 2009.

Located in the Wattisham MATZ, about 7nm west of Ipswich, Elmsett (EGST) is one of best kept secrets in aviation in the East of England. It’s a lovely, unlicenced, grass airfield with a 23/05 runway providing a take-off or landing run of about 750m. Normally peaceful, it will be a hive of activity on 19th September, when visiting pilots and aircraft join the local community for a fly-in and open day.

For the pilots and crews (all times are local):

Breakfast patrol – if you’re not spotted you win a free breakfast (10-10.30)
Instructions on the website below
Spot landing competition (10.30 - 13.30)
Flour bombing competition (10.30 – 13.30)
Air display (14.00 – 1600)
Ted Devils (parachuting teddy bears, part of display)
Lots of interesting aircraft on ground display

For ground visitors and everybody

Watch all the flying plus:
Lots of stalls, competitions and events for all the family
Food and drink on-site

And lots more … see the web site address below.

Why not fly-in with the family or fellow aviators, try to beat the breakfast patrol and have a great day out – but don’t plan to arrive or depart between 13.40 and 16.00 (local time), when the airfield is closed for the displays. It will be a busy day, so non-radio aircraft cannot be accepted; sorry!

Fly-in visitors just pay the £10 landing fee plus a small fee to enter the competitions.

Visit the web site for information about the event and flying in, including the breakfast patrol brief (or driving)
