"URGENT!!
Dear Airline Colleagues
Please refer to the e-mail below from Mr Dave Scagell, Area Operations Manager, Chevron.
As mentioned below, the supply of jet fuel to OR Tambo International Airport is currently disrupted due to logistical issues related mainly to the transport of jet from the coast to OR Tambo Airport – in particular rail tank car supply has become erratic. Attempts are being made to augment this supply with additional pipeline slugs but the benefit will not immediately be realized.
In an effort to avoid possible fuel rationing, you are all therefore requested with immediate effect to take necessary measures to reduce jet fuel uplifts at OR Tambo International Airport. This is a request to you all to implement a voluntary reduction in jet fuel uplift at OR Tambo International Airport with the goal to achieve a 30% reduction in uplift amongst all carriers. Should this not be achieved and the transport problems not be resolved, the Consortium will have no option but to consider rationing of jet fuel from the beginning of next week. The Consortium will be able to monitor the efforts taken by the airlines independently to reduce fuel uplifts at OR Tambo. Should it be necessary, an urgent meeting of all airlines will be called at short notice to discuss the problem and fuel rationing requirements. Daily updates will be forwarded through.
Your cooperation and assistance in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards"
