what is the difference between a synthetic flight instructor and a sythentic training instructor authorisation - STI-(A)?

A SFI is for Multi Pilot aeroplanes. A STI is for Single Pilot Aeroplanes. When JAR-FCL was introduced there was no provision for the many instructors giving single pilot instruction in STDs, many of theses instructors had lots of experience but no licence so the STI was invented to fill the gap.
