Stupidly let my SEP rating expire and now need to do the flight retest, does anyone know of a CFI able to do a short notice retest as need to fly next week? Have own aircraft based at Sywell (EGBK) if that helps. Weather tomorrow looks clear and fine.

Define what you mean by "CFI" - and what you want them to do.

If it's JAR PPL SEP renewal - I think you'll find you need an examiner rather than CFI!

Call your local FTO's as they will have a list of PPL examiners and I am sure they would give you contact details if you ask nicely.

You could try Clive Stainer at Hinton in the Hedges who is a JAR PPL(SEP) examiner.

Tel: 01295 812775.

We have spoken as I do know him and have had the pleasure of flying his lovely aircraft in the past.

I'd still like to know what a CFI is - for the purpose of this conversation.

For the pedantic, he is just looking for an Instructor/Examiner to sort out the renewal/revalidation. No offence but do we have to nail down every statement to the nth degree in pedantry? I am not the brightest star in the sky but I understood what he was asking........

Since Keygrip is based in Florida his understanding of the term CFI is different to our understanding in the UK, or the rest of JAA-land.

In the USA a CFI is a Certified Flying Instructor.

In the UK a CFI is a Chief Flying Instructor.

I'm sure SoCal's point was that a Chief Flying Instructor is of no use to the poster. What he needs (as Bose has already said) is an Examiner.

Like SoCal, I'm not sure that the original poster understood that.
