Does any one know(to save trudging through reams of caa docs) the legality's of flying a microlight on a uk PPL A with microlight rating, using a declaration of fitness,or does it require a class2 and the same currency requirements as flying GA on that license; The license was issued for GA complete with microlight rating, pre 2000,the holder is microlight current,
The questions are ;is the license valid without a full medical ;and is the old 5 hours in thirteen months valid ,or does it need the 12/24 etc bit
thanks

Have you read the info on nppl.uk.com?

The CAA have confirmed that JAR (expiring) and CAA (non-expiring) licences (PPLs, BCPLs, R/RCPLs and any other pre JAR-FCL CAA-issued pilot licence) can be used with a NPPL medical to fly (http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?categoryid=49&pagetype=90&pageid=873) with privileges of the NPPL.
However, it should be noted that the JAR PPL will expire and at that point,
a NPPL must be applied for.

For some time it has been possible to fly a microlight on a UK or JAA PPL SEP Class rating on the basis of a declaration of health. That was formalised in the latest exemption issued in ORS4 No 711 dated 1 Sept 08. http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/ORS4_711.pdf The revalidation criteria is however less straight forward AIC 30/2008 states:5.3 Revised Revalidation Requirements
5.3.1 The changes to revalidation requirements for SSEA, SLMG and Microlight Class Ratings do not apply to existing UK (ie not NPPL) Microlight or SLMG licence holders or those with specific Microlight or SLMG Class Ratings included in JAR-FCL aeroplane pilot licences. With the exception of those licence holders who elect to revalidate their ratings by General Skill Test, the revalidation requirements for SSEA, SLMG and Microlight Class Ratings are stated in the Order as follows So if you are flying on the basis of your old PPL A then you are into the new 12/24 revalidation criteria not the 5/13.

See 5.3.1 in the AIC re UK PPL / non NPPL microlight ratings.
It states still 5 hrs in 13 months for these.
NPPL's which were revalidated on 5 hrs in 13 months will transition to the new revalidation requirements including a 24 month validity period.

Them thar hills Read it again!
I included 5.3.1 in my previous post. It says that if you hold a UK PPL (Microlight), A UK PPL (SLMG) or a JAA licence containing a Microlight or SLMG Class rating in that licence, then you are exempt from that para and can therefore revalidate on the basis of 5/13 but, if you hold any other licence and wish to exercise the exemption in ORS4 No 711 then you are not included in the above list and must follow the requirements of 5.3.1 i.e 12/24

much2much asked about a UK PPL with Group A (now SEP) that is not specifically listed in para 5.3.1 as being exempt!
