Just a question about pre entry flight test for FI course, as I can't find any details on any forum.
Does anybody know where a pre entry flight test/proficiency check (for FI course) can be conducted with an FI? (JAR-FCL 1.330(f))

Any FI approved as a FIC instructor can conduct the check. This will usually be where you are going to take the FI course.

The FIC instructor will use it to make sure that
(a) you can fly
(b) you can talk
(c) you can fly and talk at the same time
(d) you get on in the cockpit and in the classroom
It is usually nothing too taxing, and as ifitaintboeing says it is usually arranged for before the course starts.

It's a check to see if they're going to relieve you of your £6000 for the course. Of course you'll pass!!
And don't worry if your first few landings from the right hand seat are rubbish, I've spent so much time over there recently that my ones from the left are now rubbish!!

Not always.....I know of two guys who after the 'ride' were told the 'student capability' level was on the lower side of the acceptability curve. Told a bit more diplomatically, of course!
One went on to do the course at another location, got 1/2 way through and is now no longer wanting to follow a career in instructing.

I am looking at doing my FI rating but can anybody help me with regard finding a good school?
Basically the price seems the same but what I would like is quality! So far i ve looked at On Track Aviation and Cabbair out of Biggin Hill has anybody trained there and what was it like? Or does anybody have any other recomendations?
Any thing specific i should look out for?

As a FIC Instructor I want to know the measure of the person who wants to be trained. How good is their flying, are they up to PPL standard, better or worse? What is their attitude, i.e will this person be compatible in a teaching environment. It gives the instructor a measure of the task ahead. Whilst it is based upon the Class Rating skill test, it is simply a medium for observing handling skills. If a pilot has problems with basic handling then teaching and pattering may prove a demanding task.

I think the vast majority of FIC instructors have a sensible attitude towards this requirement.

not meet a person who hasn't passed but I'm sure there are those who can't.
To say that an FTO would actually PASS you because you have the 6 grand etc is a bit beyond sanity.
After all, you get trained by someone who has an FI to teach FI's and he's got to make sure you'll pass. You can't just mellow down your standard like some Uni's are doing for students.

Happy Chappy, I have spent quite some time not at Wycombe Air Center & they offer an exceptional FI course for around £7,000 (taking into account test fees & fuel etc...). It takes around 4-6 weeks to complete & although it is officially part of the cabair group you would never know it (trust me thats a big deal!!)
The other thing to note is that every single full time PPL instructor there atm is a graduate of this course so think of it as a 6 week interview & you may well end up with a job there too!!

IIRC TheOddOne had a CRI but got absolutely no credit for it in the FI course.

A definate thumbs up for On-Track at Wellesbourne. Highly experienced FICs teaching in a relaxed atmosphere. Most of the FIs go to jobs before they finish the course due to their reputation. Just pay them a visit and ask the students for an unbiased opinion.
No comment on the other school you mentioned :mad: (yes, from personal experience!)
