Airbus 330-200, No 3 Exit...

Dear All...
Hello all its been long time away from home and every one here... but when coming back home on a Malaysian Airbus 330- 200, during the cabin emergency briefing, I noticed one difference about the no 3 exit door, in case if plane lands on water and evacuation carried out ....

All the exit will be open except no 3 door both L and R will remain close... but an evacuation on gnd will have all exits open including no 3 door... it seems to me as its some thing to do with buoyancy.. but not sure….

There seems to be a reason for it, I checked with MH crew they honestly said they never even gave a taught abt it....

Any A 330/340 guys here can get some details abt it……. preferably airbus words.....

Door 3 L/R can either be a type A or type 1 door, while all the other doors are type A.

Type A doors are equiped with dual lanes escape slide raft (can be used for evacuation on both land and water), while Type 1 doors are only equiped with single lane escape slide (can't be used as a raft, so that door will only be used for evacuation on land).

It's surprising (and not comforting) to hear that the crew didn't know which doors they could use for an evacuation. Surely that wasn't the cabin crew:confused:

Surely they would still use that exit in a ditching and then just detatch the slide and not use it as a raft, rather than not use it at all! after all an exit is an exit and everybody needs too get out ASAP! :hmm:
