Have just been informed that Howell Williams passed away yesterday after an illness of some months. He learned to fly at Sherwood Flying Club at Tollerton, Nottingham in the mid 1970s and went on to become an instructor and was on the Instructor Committee at AOPA (UK).

There is to be a memorial service at Redditch Crematorium next Friday at 11.45 am.

I remember well doing some of Howell's ab initio training and he made a significant and lasting contribution to General Aviation.

He will be missed by many.

So sorry to hear about this.

I first met Howell as a fellow student on what must have been one of the first AOPA Ground Instructor courses at the Spencer School back in 1978 (or thereabouts) -

Even then it was obvious he had a deep knowledge of and a great passion for flying and teaching.

No matter how busy he would always stop for chat when over the years we bumped into each around the airfield.

I echo the view that he made a significant and lasting contribution to General Aviation.
