I have now just about got my head around TAFS and METARS and about to take the MET exam.

Does the MET office record all TAFS and METARS? or any other site?

Reason I ask is I would like to now start using them in "real" situations and I would like to look back at flying lessons I have had cancelled and try to see why in the TAF/METAR format..

Historic TAFs are virtually, maybe even completely, unavailable on the web. Historic METARs are not that hard to come by. There was a recent thread here about historic forecasts (2-3 weeks ago, I guess) where people posted historic METARs. It might be worth digging out that thread (despite the awkward PPRuNe search function) and go from there.

BP, The thread that you refer to was started by myself. Unfortunately no one was able to point out a source for historical TAF's.

Historical METAR's are easier, and can be found on this site.
