Follow on from wanabnavypilot really, I too am doing a bit at the BoB dinner. I have looked at loads of websites with impressive rolls of honour, but none seem to summarise by service. I was wondering If anyone new of a site or had any stats regarding contribution made by other services, foreign and commonwealth as well as our own Fleet Air Arm?

Was thinking it would be nice to say something the joint aspect of the whole thing. Especially as messes now are rarely exclusively RAF.

I was going to use the word purple but it always reminds of the purple helmets comedy moped display team, then again there may be some parallels to the present day.........

Not to forget the Poles.
Battle of Britain and the Polish Air Force (http://www.ww2.pl/Battle,of,Britain,and,the,Polish,Air,Force,138.html)
Nor Royal Navy.
RUSI The Battle of Britain: The Land Perspective (http://www.rusi.org/research/militarysciences/history/commentary/ref:C4538E2591AE95/)
Nor these perspectives.
Air Power:The Battle of Britain (http://www.centennialofflight.gov/essay/Air_Power/Battle_of_Britain/AP22.htm)
These chappies.
Home Sweet Home Front - THE HOME GUARD (http://www.homesweethomefront.co.uk/web_pages/hshf_homeguard_pg.htm)
Nor these.
BBC - WW2 People's War - Travels of a Captain R.E. (Searchlights) (http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/85/a3389385.shtml)
This, as you say, is bloody obvious.
Non-British personnel in the RAF during the Battle of Britain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-British_personnel_in_the_RAF_during_the_Battle_of_Britain)
This might raise an eyebrow.
Owldaughter Read - Lammas Night book review (http://www.owldaughter.org/articles/lammasnight.html)

Just one or two ideas from the other side of the German Bight.

ianp, the boys didn't mention than purple messes are known as "tri-service" messes. Bit clinical I know, but you can always revert to more appropriate definitions as the evening goes on :ok:

Tri-service? I suppose you mean RN,Army and RAF, but what about us chaps in the Womans Auxillary Balloon Corps? Think I will stick with Purple Messes, it works in so many ways.
