Hi,

I'm going down to France in the next couple of weeks to a wedding near Cheroy in France, Can't seem to find a larger airfield near this spot

google map link here http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Do any of you know how to find info on smaller strips, kind of like the farm strip book for England but in France?

Thanks in Advance.

Not a farm strip but probably the nearest small airfield is Moret Episy. The website of the Aeroclub is: http://acvl.episy.free.fr/

What do you need? just a grass strip, or do you want more facilities?
The SIA web site has all the public strips, and quite a lot of restricted use (neighbouring clubs use, based ac only).

Ok, I did the obvious thing and looked at a map
There are four airfields in the area

LFGO Pont sur Yonne
LFPU Moret
LFEM Montargis
LFGK Joigny
Dont bother with Buno Bonnevaux, it's gliding only
Go to http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/html/ and click on AIP, then drill down to the aifrield selector VAC aérodromes to get the airfield charts and info as pdf documents. All free, no need to register. French only, but fairly simple.

IMHO this is the best site for finding airfields in France and surrounding countries. Insert LFEM in the white box at the top of the page to go to the Cheroy area then hover your mouse cursor over each airfield to view the airfield details.

You will have to accept a couple of site disclaimer before view ing the site proper.

You can also use the site for flight planning and met.

have fun.

Thanks, I just need at least 500m of grass but has to be good grass....

Tarmac is preferred, I saw the obvious ones on the map but was trying to find somthing a little closer.

I'll try those sites you guy's put up there thanks.

Distances and times to Cheroy by taxi are as follows:

LFGO (http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/aip/enligne/PDF_AIPparSSection/VAC/AD/2/0805_AD-2.LFGO.pdf): 24km / 26min
LFPU (http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/aip/enligne/PDF_AIPparSSection/VAC/AD/2/0805_AD-2.LFPU.pdf): 27km / 26min
LFEM (http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/aip/enligne/PDF_AIPparSSection/VAC/AD/2/0805_AD-2.LFEM.pdf): 53km / 49min

All three are non-restricted, non-PPR. They're also A/A so technically calls should be made in French, but don't be shy to use English if you can't speak decent French.

Call the respective aeroclubs and ask them for the number to call to get a cab, which typically will also be posted somewhere on the aerodrome. Alternatively, arrange pickup with your contacts in France.

I think you have found all of them by now. Don't even think of using a microlight strip unless you are genuinely flying a microlight. I did recently ask for permission for one for the Cub and it's a definite NO, whatever the owner might want. Private (aeroplane)strips in France are just that, private, and you will need written permission for their use from the owner and the relevant aeronautical district, which will take about three weeks. 24 km isn't really very far, now is it?
Have a good wedding!
