Dear friends Idonīt know if this has been discussed before but recently I wonder if the FCTM of the 737 says that the airplane is category C or D and I am landing near the MLM with a speed of 141 kts for flaps 40, in this case should I use minimums for category D?
Enjoy the flight,
Javier

The FCTM states that the boeing 737 is classed as category C for straight in approaches.

For an 800 at flap 30 according to the graphs in the FCTM, 1.23 Vs at max landing weight would be right on the 140/141 kts boundary for Cat c or D, so presumably for flap 40 would be below 140kts (no graphs for flap 40 are given in the manual)

For the classics there is no problem, on a 300 1.23Vs at MLM is approx 125 kts for flap 30.

Hope that helps.

Sorry but the range of speeds for ICAO is 121/140 for C and 141/165 for D.

In my FCTM page 5.4 "the 737-800 is classified as a Category "C" or "D" airplane, depending upon maximum landing weight, for straight-in approaches"

And I am sure my 737-800 has a 141 Vref for flaps 40 even until 1000kg below MLM
No idea about the graph your takinīabout (page?)
Thank u anyway

We obviously have a different version of the FCTM as mine simply states that the aircraft is category C (my manual is revision 4). The graphs I refer to are in the section on stall recovery which in my copy start on page 7.12 and give stall speed against weight for all variants of the 737 from 300 to 900.

Based on those and some interpretation of the scales which aren't that clear I got the figures I gave and hence the answer.

The FCTM has obviously been updated somewhat since mine was published so my apologies for misleading you.

Used to fly the -800 a few years ago, I don't have the manual to hand but.....I remember on the profiles in FCOM1 that the -800 was CAT C EXCEPT for a single engine circling approach when it became CAT D.

Hope this helps
