Hey everyone,
Sorry is this was posted earlier. I am keen to know if anyone knows what is the process in converting FAA Commercial certificate into a Canadian one.

I tried to google it, couldn't really understand anything.

Appreciate any replies.

This seems to be the best link ...

I haven't done it yet, but I'm told the process is very much as described above. There aren't any ASA manuals out for the written (give it time!), so you have to get the books listed and study them (follow the links). Apparently just one twenty question exam.

I just asked a my friend who converted his last month. He was required to get a Canadian cat1 medical and do a written exam. It's the same to switch a Canadian CPL over to FAA CPL.

If you're still in the States, you might find a doctor down there that can do the canadian cat1 med for you as there are a few up here that can do ones for FAA.

Hi there

Thanks for your info. I'm going to convert my FAA commercial into CAA.
But can I keep the FAA one after that?

thanks for your advise!

As long as your FAA medical is current, then to my knowledge, yes.
You might want to confirm your instrument rating and stuff, whether or not approaches in Canada count for FAA.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to narrow down the areas I need to study for this Canadian conversion test. Can anybody get me focusing on the right subjects. This task is so daunting. I am currently studying the ATPL test prep book by Shewing (sp.?). Most of this stuff is sooo confusing.
Thanks in advance.

You mention (infer) your studing for the ATPL. If you are then study for the 40 question ATPL aeronautical knowledge test on Air Law and Communications. I recommend the following:
Aerocourse...Canadian ATPL Workbook
Michael Culhane's...ATPL Groundschool course
The Canadian Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM)

You will also need to pass the 20 question Instrument Rating aeronautical knowledge test on Air Law and Communications. I recommend the following:
The Sharper Edge Publication...Instrument Rating 2007 Exam Preparation Guide
Michael Culhane's...Instrument Rating ground School Course
Nav Canada's...Canada Air Pilot (CAP GEN) Instrument Procedures...it's free.

These books can be obtained from Aero Training Products Inc at Vancouver Intl. Airport. Phone: 604 278 0432

I just clicked on that TC link and noticed this

800 Burrard St.
Room 620
Vancouver, B.C.
V6Z 2J8
Tel.: (604) 666-5571
Fax: (604) 666-4839

That's the office for the Transport Canada office in Vancouver (there's also one in Richmond, the city where the International Airport is located at) but the address for the one listed is wrong. TC is located on the 8th floor.... =P

I converted my FAA licence to the Canadian one a couple of months ago.

The exam was 25 questions mainly on flight time limitations, licence recency requiremnets, airspace division and general airlaw type stuff. I used aerocourse and found it a great help.

And here's an interesting link ...

I can't vouch for the product - haven't used or seen it - but it's the first and only "commercial solution" I've seen for 'FAA to Canadian'. There are products available for 'Canadian to FAA', ASA for one.
