Can someone explain to me how ZULU time works. Is it different summer & winter? Its now 11.18 am, whats this in Zulu time?

No, Zulu time, also called UTC (universal coordinated time), or GMT (Greenwich mean time) is always the same and never changes. It's the time at 0 degrees E/W longitudite that happens to run through Greenwich due to it being a convenient place to measure it from and the Royal Navys need in days gone by for standardised time for navigation purposes.

It is now 11:25 Zulu.

It's also 11:25 Zulu everywhere on the planet. When the clocks go forward in a few months British summertime will be one hour ahead of Zulu time. In the winter they match up due to the UK's location at 0deg E/W on the globe. In aviation due to the distances flown we need standardised time so that we are all singing from the same hym sheet and no confusion arises with various local time shifts for daylight saving purposes....Hope that helps.:ok:

No, Zulu is a word for GMT and Alfa for local time. When the clocks go forward Alfa will be ahead of Zulu. In wintertime Alfa and Zulu are the same.
It is now 12.00 Zulu, or GMT or UTC. It will be the same when the clocks change but local, or Alfa, would be 13.00.

I believe it's a NATO standard.

Zulu is GMT/UTC +/- 0 hours

A to M (less J) are respectively UTC + 1 to 12 hours
N to Y are respectively UTC - 1 to 12 hours

Curiously, Mike and Yankee are the same time with 1 day difference.

And Juliet is used for local time, but has ne specific meaning.

Zulu time, is another name for GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) or UTC (Universal Time Coordinated). Time zones around the earth cover 15º-wide longitude zones, which are given a "letter", Z or Zulu is the one applicable to GMT/UTC.

Z time does not change seasonally, there is no "summer" daylight savings game played with that time. My pilot wristwatch (which has a 24 Hrs dial) is always kept on that time, I never change it when I fly from A to B, or when it is summer or winter. Even my computer is on "Z" time...

Of interest to you, little details about "Z" time...
With my airline (and many others) all operations are on "Z" time. We start our Z day at 0001Z, and it ends at 2359Z... We just dont use "0000" nor "2400" on our records. So if a flight starts exactly at "midnight Z time", on our records we note "0001"... Same, if we arrive at "midnight Z time", we will write "2359" on our papers. This only to avoid confusion.

The only people who seem to have problems with Z time are some flight attendants. So, our crew scheduling department is always nice to write the rosters using Z and local time - such as -
EZE 142215Z/1915L - which means -
Buenos Aires 14th of the month, at 22:15Z or 19:15L (L for local time).

Another thing, there is no "am" and "pm" with Z time...!
Can´t you guys and girls count beyond 12...?
If you ever date an Argentina lady, and meet her at 9:00, tell her 21:00...
She might show up at 9:00am, and since you are not there, good bye forever.

My airline dispatchers use this to set time on their clocks.
I use it myself for my computer and time hack for my wristwatch.
World time is kept by the atomic clock located in Ft.Collins, Colorado.
