Hi all,

was wondering if anyone could give me some info on working in Canada. I am an aussie ATPL holder flying EMB120 command and would like to see and fly in Canada.
How does one go about it?
Jet opportinities ?
Visas ?

I have 5600tt with 2500 turbine

You can apply the permanent residency through Immigration Canada.
And after couple of years when it comes though apply Air Canada, Jazz or Westjet and start as an F/O with $35000 salary.

I do have CASA ATPL but I can't work there because of the same problem. I need Australian permanent residency to be able to work there and low salary.

However, if you want to instruct students at flight school for a year, then you can get a visa for that. There's no conversion for the instructor rating. You will have to do the whole course.

The living cost is almost the same. Car insurance is about 5-10 times higher here. I almost had a heart attack when I got back here.(I wasn't driving before) Your credit rating/driving experience doesn't count here. AMA(CAA) is kinda like NRMA and I am with them now.

And the tax here is almost the same as there. so my plan is to live in Asia and save up.

Alright since you do not give us much information: immigrate?, contract?, seasonal - May to September?, one season?, etc.

Immigrate: Immigration Canada

Work visa: Canadian High Commission in Australia: good luck GYAIG if you want to work here this season.

Licence: Transport Canada

Job: Good luck. Be prepared to do a road tour to meet and greet the CPs

If you have not won a lottery yet try AC or Jazz, or WESTJET (a better bet) but the process is the same.

Google: "pprune aussie work immigrate canada TC" and work around those words. The first hits concern helicopter pilots but the mechanics are the same.

Once you have done some homework and still think that you want to do this, try again and you might get some names and addresses.

You could also try targeting companies directly-there is a bit of a shortage of qualified direct entry turbo prop captains in parts of canada.You might want to check out 'avcanada.ca' (if you post there put on a flak jacket though as it can be a pretty negative forum unfortunately)free job section.Companies can provide you with a work visa if they can show there is no one available to do the job.I see Pacific Coastal out of British Columbia is looking for captains-they run year round but have a big spike in the summer tourism and always require crews for short summer contracts.
If you really want to immigrate you would have to probably fly a King Air,Metro,Bandit,etc initially for one of the less disirable outfits in a remote location to get sponsored-but once here you can start the process on your own.I don't think WestJet,AirCanada,or Jazz would be interested in you as they all still have thousands of qualified canadians in the que still to get on with them.
Another online resource is 'pilotcareercentre.com'. If you apply yourself you should be able to find a way in.

My other tthought maybe is to use float experience on otters as a way in.
Seems there is no shortage in the upper end of the scale there.:ok:

For Sure,if you've got float experience that opens a lot more opportunity.Were you flying out of Cairns?I used to fly floats out of Fiji and really enjoyed it.If you have 1000pic on otters (or even 500) in saltwater try Harbour Air, or West Coast Air (Vancouver,BC) or really where ever you want to work in canada on floats. There is a shortage of experienced seaplane/float drivers.

Also Pacific Coastal Arlines has a float division out Port Hardy (5Gooses,3 Amphib Beavers) that they are hiring for the busy summer season

Yeah I did do a stint out of Cairns on the straight float radial otter, what a truely nostalgic machine, also flew turbine amphib otter in Broome and beavers etc through the Whitsundays. As for float time have bout 1500. May be the best way to see Canada.
