Last night flying from Rome to Brussels at FL320 we saw an aircraft opposite direction above us with very bright red top and bottom beacons. They were flashing at about 1 or 2 second intervals. Much brighter than strobes but not dazzeling.
Is this perhaps the latest beacons from Airbus / Boeing or would it be Military?

Just wondering
Cheers, Dixi.

Sound like standard anti-collision lights to me, nothing new-fangled:hmm:

Dixi - some of the 'newer' anti-colls are mini-strobes unlike the 'old fashioned' rotating beacons.

Thanks for the comments chaps.
I've been flying the skies for 30 odd years and never seen anything quite like this.
Might be LED's I suppose. The other A/C was a few miles away laterally and as an anti col-light it certainly shows up well.
I expect we will see a lot more of them.

As for being a UFO, well it was flying and I couldn't identify it so I think your'e right.
