Chevron cutting can occur when there is wheel spin-up during a landing on a runway which has cross groove cuts.

See page 31 of Tyre Care *.pdf from Dunlop Aircraft Tyres (http://http://www.dunlopaircrafttyres.com/tyrecare/dm1172/DM1172.pdf) for more information.

Bad link, needs editing.

We see it a lot on our a/c and it is to do with the runway, we also handle other operators who don't fly where we do and never see it on their tyres, so purely down to the runway construction.
