Is there anything fixed wing or rotary that is available for hire in that area these days? I come up there several times each year but unfortunately by car as transport logistics of wife and dogs prevent me bringing an aircraft. I have always wanted to do some flying there but never managed to find anything to hire anywhere nearer than Cumbernauld.

Perth or Cumbernauld are about the only places. Both are friendly places and will give you lots of advice. Fuel can be your biggest problem since it is always available at Oban and Wick but only sometimes at Stornoway.
