Yea the same.... The pilot must be near qualified though because you only raise them that high when your getting fairly good !! :D

It looks like a radio direction finding receiver to me. ie: trying to help you find an elt

I'm guessing that if you are flying it, then you know. If you're not flying it -who cares? Get a life, have a beer and chill!

One bit is a twin-sensor gyro-stabilised camera most likely fitted with normal video and IR.

The other bit looks like a bull**** drain for the crap that comes from the left seat.

And the flag indicates that they have a diver onboard.

It’s a Micro wave down link!
Trust me; my dad was a doctor before he got struck off!

It's a FLIR turret. Probably has low-light TV as well. Since it doesn't appear to be mounted on an attach helo, it probably doesn't have targeting systems as well.

Not the FLIR, the tubey thing.

Datalink? Radalt?

Its the drain tube for the Pilots in-flight piss pot device.

SIC isnt important enough to get one yet!

I'm not sure but my money would be on "bb in ca"'s suggestion. Probably a homing antenna for emergency beacons.

My vote is a Microwave Downlink Antenna for the camera pod...

Lord, you lot are thick!

Anyone can plainly see that it is the Flugelbinder for the DasBlinkenlight.

You know the one, that you are not allowed to touch??

It's da switch for da "disting" and thats my final offer.:8

Co-pilot relief tube collection device. Prior to 2000 this used to be discharged into the atmosphere since then it has to be collected due to complaints of yellow rain.:E

Its definitely not a DF or DDF (Distress Direction Finding) antenna (121.5, 243.0, 156.8, 406), they are larger more round antenna usually located under the belly, sort of the size of half of a basketball. As for the radalt antenna, nope, there are two of them located just inboard of the two sponsons within which sit the main landing gear when retracted. I have never seen that "dangly" thing before, and I doubt that it is a relief tube, as the maintainers certainly don't want pilots pissing all over the port side of their aircraft. Perhaps the downlink guess is the best so far, but me thinks its something less sophisticated.

The bell end bit looks a lot like our downlink, but the support arm on ours is rather more elegant

29th May 2007, 06:35
It looks very much like our I-band transponder - that shows up on our radar so you know where other similarly equipped aircraft are.

It looks too large to be a standard 2.5 Ghz wilted dipole for a microwave downlink. Very substantial mounting arm though, so could contain a motorised directional antenna.

I checked with my sources, its an x-band transponder antenna. Piece of pie goes to the crabman! ;)
