A message from the Chairman of the Lancashire Aero Club

At the last forum it was agreed that, as a result of increasing cost and business complexity, the Lancashire Aero Club would reduce its cost and responsibility footprint at Barton, allowing the landlord to provide and manage the facilities.

Over the last three months this has been achieved. The committee set as objectives: -

Continuity of employment of LPL Flying School and Maintenance and BAOL employees
Continuity of Student Training programmes
Continuity of Hangarage and Maintenance Services at Barton
Continuity of the Clubhouse facilities
To protect the Lancashire Aero Clubs’ financial position, enabling future projects The first business to transfer operation was BAOL, now with all services intact trading as City Airports Manchester Ltd. Kay Nugent remains as the General Manager reporting to Steve Gill as Managing Director, Steve and Kay now manage directly all Airfield activities, Hangarage is the main visible change with most clients of the Lancs Aero Club transferring as existing customers to CAML.

The Flying School Business since the 31st of March is now owned and operated by Stuart Carr, a long time member of Lancashire Aero Club. Stuart offered to purchase all the aircraft, take on the full time employees and continue with the instructors in the self-employed category as they wished, giving them flexibility of employment. Students now enjoy working with the same instructors and aircraft, for them it has been a seamless transfer.

The Clubhouse assets were sold to Cheshire Flying Services Limited trading as Ravenair. Following a short period of closure when cleaning and refurbishment were completed Heather is now back cooking the usual pilots’ breakfast.

The LPL Maintenance Business was sold on the 8th of May, also to Ravenair. The preferred purchaser was a Management Buy Out, however, they withdrew their offer at a late stage of the negotiations which, resulted in the sale of the business to Ravenair. The Committee is convinced that all the Maintenance Employees will have new and improved opportunities working for Ravenair which is a reputable regional operator with interests in Flying training, Aircraft Charter, and General Aviation in Liverpool, Barton and the Isle of Man. The Ravenair plans for training, investment and expansion were discussed with employees last week at a joint employer consultative meeting. For Maintenance customers it’s business as usual.

In summary, the Committee has achieved a seamless business transfer. The employees remain in post with continuity of benefits; the customers enjoy the same facilities under new and professional management. We must now look ahead to what can be achieved in the future as the Lancashire Aero Club. This is what we expect to discuss on the 6th of June at the members’ forum starting at 7:30 at Boysnope Golf Club, which is next door to Makro.
