I have a feeling that this question has been posted before, but after several searches, including using American spelling, I came up with nought!
I've just read the Vulcan book that's in the charts at the moment and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I also remember reading a book when I was a kid about a test pilot. Was it "Jeffery Quill"?

Read Nick Cook's The Search for Zero Point a couple of years back which has some prety far out aviation theories in it. Great read.
Also read Ben Rich's Skunk Works. Also a very good read. Enlightening.

Word of warning, stickandrudderman, asking questions like that on PPRuNe can prove very expensive... and not just for you! I can see I will be raiding several well known book sites with my credit card again!
