Quick question, I have an Australian PPL and I have a friend who has a holiday house in Turkey (Cappodocia) that I've been invited to visit this summer. The area is relatively isolated and it looks to me that air is the way to travel. How difficult is it to get accredited and fly in Turkey and may be rent a C172 or a Diamond or whatever from Ankara or Istanbul?

Also wondering about Italy where another friend is pressing me to visit her this summer, but I think its easier easier for me to take the train to Arezzo and hire a car.

Cheers!

Kyprianos (see the Athens thread) should know about Turkey.

There's not a lot of GA there but there is some, I believe.

Italy is going to be easier. However, it's probably normal to fly the entire length of Italy and not see another GA plane. Avgas availability is the #1 issue in Italy and needs to be verified with a phone call before the flight.

I flew to Kapadokya in 2003 in a big Fly In organized by AOPA's of Turkey, Greece & Israel.

The presentation: http://www.aopa.gr/en/eventsdetails.asp?NEWS_ID=4

Ankara LTAC has one or two Flying clubs.
Checkout Menekse Aviation in the above link and give them a contact.
Mr. Erodgan Menekse should provide you the information you need.
Ankara to Kapadokya is not too far and easy to reach.
There's no AVGAS in Kapadokya Nevshehir LTAZ from what I remember.
Kapadokya greater area archaelogical sites are amazing. Do visit them.
