View Full Version : Historical Windspeed Data web source?

Sorry if this has been answered before. I did a quick search but found no obvious threads.

When we are discussing aircraft incidents, some of you frequently post the wind speed and direction (infact all the met data) for that day.

My question is: Where can I find historical met data (specifically windspeed and direction) on the web?

I am particularly interested in the conditions around Heathrow on the 30th December.

Thanks
CFN1

Drop bookworm a PM, he might be able to help.

In a broader sense - if I may expand the thread a little - I would like to know where you can source (if poss.) all weather data for a specific region on a specific date. I tried the Met office site to no avail.

Kev.

Are you trying to see if the forecast wind at BHX two days ago (25kt gusting 352kt!) has ever been matched?

From the Met Office - MIDAS Land Surface Observation Stations Data
http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/data/ukmo-midas/
UK data from 1853 to the present day.
See the web page for the data availiable - You need to apply for access as they don't want it republished, so hopefully you want it for academic research purposes rather than commercial.

EDIT - re-reading your original post, the above is probably inappropriate, but I'll leave it up as a useful link ;)

Here's a better solution ;)
Requires free registration, but then select your date, and log in with the Authenticate link. Gives UTC, QNH, Humidity, Wind & Direction, Vis, Cloud Cover and Significant WX.

Great Slopey. Your 2nd post worked well. Many thanks.

It would still be nice to see the historical aviation Metars though, as they show Gust strength which Eurometeo's data doesn't.

Ok - try this one :)

http://www.wunderground.com/history/station/03772/2006/12/30/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

Gusts shown in the table at the bottom of observations, and click show full METARs at the bottom for the un-decoded goodness :)

Thanks Bookworm, even better. Is your source public (accessible to the rest of us) ?

I'm afraid not -- not because it's secret but it's just not set up for WWW access.

So, out of interest, could you explain how you obtain it? Thanks in advance.
