Apologies if this has been posted before. Might be a useful add-on to one's planning process on days like today.

The downloadable java viewer at

http://www.blitzortung.de/index.php?mode=6&map=3&lang=e

is the best for much of Europe. It is a multi-station correlated project, as far as I can tell, so the range will be accurate, whereas the range from any single station won't be. To install, unpack the zip into some folder, and create a shortcut to lview.exe

For real weather radar, see

It seems that both the ones you and I have posted are using Boltek (http://www.boltek.com) detectors that use a single sensor to giving a bearing and distance to the strike. As it happens the two we have posted quite easily cover N and S England!

Blame me for the weather

The one and only time I planned a trip abroad to Le Touquet to do my CPL QCX, and my father in law booked a day of work the weather is the worst day we've had for weeks, the funny thing was, we got to Filton this morning at 6:30am, parked the car, turned off the engine and WHAAM, massive flash of lightning, thunder and torrential downpour, we looked at each other and laughed, how typical

After extensive user testing over the lunch-break here at AA plc I can tell you that the IoW site posted by BRL does not detect strikes here in the Thames Valley, about 3m SW of Benson. We've had about 90 minutes of medium to low activity, and none of it has shown on http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm, whereas it has shown on http://www.nowcast.co.uk/lightning/ and on the app posted by IO540.
