Is it allowed( MATS Part 1 or 2?), do you do it?, if so what do you tell the U/T that asks where it says you can, etc etc

Answers on a postcard

None that say ' use your common sense ' please

Very GOA

Well if the obvious answer is out..... The question is, where does one learn common sense?

I would start by asking said U/T why they think they need to do it.

And no, I can't think of anything in the rules that specifically covers the situation. But the way that we are now training controllers - a procedure to follow in every situation - no doubt there soon will be!

Perhaps the U/T is extrapolating from the situation of losing radar contact with a flight going through the overhead. On the APR course we were told in such cases that a re-ident was required.

Area ATCO here so probably wrong-if an aircraft goes around from low level and is transferred back to radar, could the departure method of seeing the contact within a mile of the end of the runway not be used?

Only if you have a departure time passed by tower, now, this asks a further question, if twr co ordinates the go around is that sufficient as a "time of departure"?

If however you have never lost radar contact there is no need to re identify. If you have lost contact (as gonzo said) the a/c will be required to be re identified :ugh: .

Indeed. If they do go around and are the only a/c to emerge from the radar overhead at the time of the go around, then what's the problem? But then we do use a Clee feed for our SSR and never lose the secondary ident.
