hi,
I am an aspiring pilot. Due to the holidays i was hoping that i could do a voluntary role at a local airport. (either manchester or leeds/ bradford airport) as this would give me a further insight to the industry and will be beneficial to me, Quite possibly with air traffic control or operations. Can anyone please give me some information on how to go about this.

thanks

Sadly, I very much doubt that you would find such a position at a large airfield. Staff are all properly trained employees and they will not take on volunteers in any of the operational departments (or anywhere else I suspect).

Have you checked with flying clubs at nearby airfields? If they hold fly-ins they might take on volunteer marshallers and the like.

HD has the right idea. A mate of mine started with a Saturday job at his local flying club when he was 16 as well as a summer job as a baggage handler at BHD and used the cash to buy flying lessons. He's been flying for My Travel for about 10 years now. It can be done.
