In Ireland, the cost to apply for a ppl skills test is 390 euro. The charge for issue of license is a further 190 euro. I couldn't help but feel ripped off and was wondering how these charges compare to those in other countries?

The UK charges:
ppl skills test = 246 euro
grant of license = 233 euro.

Thats 100e cheaper than over here. :*

The skills test is FREE :) (other than the price of the aircraft hire) in France according to my instructor, if I understood him properly.

The cost of a Skills Test in the UK is up to the examiner, they have to cover their overheads. It costs money to be an examiner so that cost has to be past on. Look at the cost of a medical or an hour with a solicitor and get an idea of what an hour of a professional persons time really costs. A PPL skill test is still good value for money, you get arround 5-6 hours of examiners time.
