Having read in the aviation press about Lydd and the opportunity to get 100LL at 83p/L when continuing across the Channel, does any such airfield exist for crossing to Southern Ireland? Somewhere in Wales, NW England or maybe SW Scotland?
Is Lydd the only place on the South Coast or is the duty free option available anywhere you then go on from?

You can get the duty back on fuel exported from any airfield in the UK.

You have to file a drawback form with customs for the duty paid fuel that you have uplifted for the flight, the only differance is that at Lydd they can sell the fuel to you without the duty if you are going international.

It is in your interest to go international from your local airfield as the duty drawback starts at the point of departure an not at the south coast.

It normaly takes about 6 weeks for customs to send the drawback cheque.

And just to expand it a little further in case you didn't know....

...when refueling in Ireland (Republic) for an international departure, make sure you tell them it's an international departure, and they won't charge you the duty either.

You can get duty/tax free avgas in Spain if you show "evidence" of limited company ownership.

You can get it in most places if you show an AOC. It doesn't matter what class of ops the AOC is for :O

Does tend to undermine the case for diesel engines somewhat, in their primary market (flying schools).

Gentlemen,

Thank you all. Off to the Republic I go with more Euros for Guinness.

Are you possibly confusing duty-free with VAT-free.

Many airfields, such as Norwich, will supply fuel VAT-free if your next port of call is outside the UK. You can still claim back the duty on this fuel making it even cheaper.

I don't know how to find out the availability of this other than contacting the relevant fuel supplier.

You may also have to offset the higher cost of landing at a larger airport.

VAT is not re-claimable on fuel already loaded for foreign flights.
