One of three possibles.......... Woodbridge, Bentwaters, or Wattisham ???

It can't be Wattisham. They said it was de-commissioned. How many people are going to try to fly over it to get a look? :8

I think I heard Johney Vaughen say "10 miles from Ipswich" ...

so does that make Bentwaters the most likely venue?

Precisely 1.4 miles from where I'm sat.

If I were them I would have lied about where the airfield was to prevent any banner towing giveaways like there were in Big Brother.

So, could they be lying?

I'm afraid that they don't appear to be bright enough for that, it is where they said it is.

I believe its Bentwaters. Apparently they nearly screwed up when one of the shutters over the windows opened on the plane they were flying on, whilst Canary Wharf was in view!

I think Bentwaters is right - check this aerial pic out:

Bentwaters (http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=635000&Y=252500&width=700&height=400&gride=626991.357849523&gridn=249303.68904004&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&pc=&zm=0&scale=50000&multimap.x=364&multimap.y=167)

Looks the same as on the telly last night.

Just an hour from Cranfield - might go for a spin this weekend!

Compulsive viewing for every PPL who always wanted to be an astronaut, and thought that they were the 'right stuff' - i.e. ME, please! :)

And it's not NOTAM'd, so a series of low passes may be in order!

But, did they actually say it was live, or could it all have been pre-recorded already?

Secondly, apparently there's a rumour going around that it's all a hoax, and they are all actors...

Ah well - keep me occupied for a bit now I'm A Celebrity has finished!!!!

Bentwaters Fly-By This Weekend?
Could'nt this forum muster a reasonable collection of aircraft, such as Yaks, in their former Soviet paint schemes & markings, to do a fly-by and add a bit of reality? :)

If you approach from the SW and fly along the old runway (roughly SW - NE), you should then do a left hand turn out and waggle your wings over the next village you come across.

I'll be counting.

Edited to say "Damn it doesn't allow cyrillic characters."

Edit: So were either the private jet or Sikorsky heli featured on this evening's program piloted by a PPRuNer?

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, the helicopter supposedly on a Rusian airbase had a G- _ _ _ _ registration, lucky they got away with that.

Isn't it recorded? I'm sure reference to November was made yesterday....

LondonJ
8th Dec 2005, 22:12
Well they've been advertising it for weeks. Unless they've kept the contestants in isolation it must be pre-recorded.

It says on the website (http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/S/spacecadets/about/faq-show.html) that the "cadets" were on holiday when the show was announced, so a flypast could be appropriate...

Did a bit of digging... :8

Live coverage starts on E4 on Sunday, suggesting that the shows up to then are pre-recorded. According to a TV equivalent of PPRuNe, their flight around the North Sea was on or before 16th November.

Photos of Bentwaters on these sites (ghostbase.org/bentwaters (http://www.ghostbase.org/bentwaters/) and bentwaters.org (http://www.bentwaters.org/)) seem to match up. It's now operated by Bentwaters Parks Ltd (http://www.bentwatersparks.com) and used for TV etc.

Coincidentally, there were apparently some famous UFO sightings there 25 years ago (article (http://www.forteantimes.com/articles/152_rendlesham.shtml)) ...

I thought they said the cadets would train for 20 or 21 days before the 5 day "shuttle" trip. Well its only been on tele for three days (?) and tonight they start the 5 day trip. I thought that the training was pre-recorded and the 5 days was live, but I am probably wrong.
Does anyone else think that the RAF actor chappie is nothing like a real RAF chappie? I've flown with many. None like that.
As for fooling the cadets, it seems pretty easy, I mean, when did it become possible to go "into orbit" without any zero gravity?????
