this is happening in 2007, i dont know what the reason is but i would guess its something to do with magnetics?

This due to the decrease in magnetic variation as the magnetic north pole drifts with time. It's something to do with plate techtonics.

The scruffy old out of date chart on my office wall says that the average mag variation in the UK in 2003 was 3.5 degrees W and decreasing by 7 minutes per year. I used to use 4 degrees when doing my PPL nav.

But I'm old enough to remember Heathrow having 28 /10 and Gatwick being 27 / 09.

It happens to everybody eventually.

In my neck of the woods, Blackbushe, Wycombe and Farnborough have all had to repaint the numbers on their runways in the last few years.

Runway track's gone from 236 to 235 (056 to 055) in the last 3 or four years..
As soon as it clicks down to 234, it'll have to change!!

Why does everybody have to quote the runway directions arse-about-face? It's 09/27 etc etc, not 27/09 !

Probably because the prevailing winds over the UK tend to mean that the end with the higher number is used more often and so tend to come to mind more readily when describing the strip. But really - who cares?

Sometime next year Stansted will become 04/22..............

EDI was 25/07 (just to annoy 2 sheds) until a couple of years ago.

...and in the not-too-distant future, the north and south poles flip over, then will we be lost!:D
