It mite come in handy for moving 777 engines around.

One has to wonder whether there is more to this out-sized 744 than meets the eye. It is hard to believe that Boeing anticipates 787 production rates will be such that three of these planes are needed simply to ferry fuselage tubes about.

Interesting that most of the design work will be by Boeing's Russian partner Ilyushin, and the mods will be done in Taipei. And a question to ponder is whether the new design would allow for a pressurized fuselage at some future date.

The girth looks to be greater than an Antonov 225.

So... how does this freighter compare to the Beluga? Similar sort of size? The Beluga has two engines and a twin tail, if I remember right?

The Beluga has two engines
Perhaps you are thinking of Farnborough, but even then it still had 5 engines left!!;)

Considering the attention that Section 41 gets, that new bit aft again will make it a costly airframe to maintain..IMHO. They'll also lose space between the wings where the fuel tanks are...assuming they remain there.
