Hello,

I am a student at a university in Florida and I am currently writing a thesis. The topic I have decided to write about is " In Flight cosmic radiation" and its effects on flight crew. I was wondering if anybody in the forum could help me with some information regarding this. So far i have found material, but it seems vague.

I was also wondering if you guys could give me an insight regarding the airlines take on this topic. What do the companies do to inform you about this subject, and is anything being done to reduce exposure to such radiation.
Being a low time pilot, I have no access to such info, so I hope you could help me out. Or send me to somebody who might know. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Pyro

Try H.A.R.M.S:high altitude radiation monitoring service
Airlines provide little accurate information regarding radiation to their employees.

There are differences in what airlines must do under varying exposure rates. The links below may lead you where you want to go (if you obtain some operational profiles, the first link will allow you to determine the exposure from Cosmic Background Radiation from given flights on given days (it doesn't do calcs for things such as coronal ejections IIRC).

If you are not already booked in, Space Weather Week 2005 (5-8 April05) at Broomfield, Colorado, would be a rich source of information, as may be the meeting of International Committee for Space Weather Impacts on Aviation Safety (ICSWIAS), also in Broomfield on 4 Apr05.
