Hi,

I flew on G-EZKG yesterday (last easyJet 737-700 delivered), I asked for a flight deck visit after the flight (was granted) :D. While I was in there I noticed that the A/T Arm switch had an INOP sticker over it. I'm just curious to find out what effect this would have? Manual thrust used all the way?

Thanks ;)

Yes , manual thrust all the way, no big deal and no limitation imposed. We can even fly Cat III approaches without it.

Well its not a problem on the 146, but then its always manual.

Thanks for your replies, very interesting. :)

I could imagine that it could be quite fun for the pilots to control the thrust manually on such an automated aircraft, especially during turbulence! :D

Kind Regards

I would feel happier in turbulence controlling the throttles myself. The A/T does a particularly lousy job of it.

Greaser, you are so right! Yesterday, over europe, while enjoing some pretty moderate turbulance,in a -700 with a/t engaged, the speed ,selected at .76,was ranging from .73 to .80 while the a/t didn't care a bit. Those were not short time variations, but no response from the a/t,or a very delayed one.

In our company on 'the bus', its SOP to disconnect autothrottle in severe turbulance.

:ok:

But then, Carpathia, the Thrust Management System on our beloved BAe-146 has always surpassed these basic Boeing Auto-Throttles hasn't it!:ok:

Yeah, the 146 is actually equipped with a highly advanced thrust management system. In what other type can the "autothrottle" also fly the aircraft, chat up the cabin crew and drink coffee? ;)
