Just a question for any 777 drivers or engineers.

An article on the 777 stated that the GE 90 is about 4% more fuel efficient than the RR Trent due to its greater bypass ratio. Does this panout in actual operations. The Rollers i believe are somewhat lighter than the GE90.

Would be interested in the opinions of pilots in the engines relative good/bad points.

From a maintenance point of view, I believe the Trent is a much more user friendly engine to work on.

The GE uses around 4-5 times more the amount of oil that the Trent does.

The accessory gearbox and most of the LRU's on the GE are mounted on the core of the engine, which means opening all of the cowlngs to access them. They are also quite high up from the ground.
The Trent has it's gearbox mounted on the underside of the fancase, so you only need to open the fan cowls to get to all the main accessories.

That's my opinion anyway........
