It seems that the ATCO's AFS is going to be pulled with effect from June, add that to the loss of Fam. flights(officially that is)and the termination of liaison visits to other units, the professional knowledge base is becoming severely eroded.. .Okay so the AFS wasn't worth very much and hadn't been increased for years, but it all helps. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I always thought it was a good idea to encourage controller's to fly.. .I wonder when the co-operation/goodwill from us will run out?

Hi Vectorer. . Do you happen to know if this means claims will still be paid until June or that the scheme ends at the end of the current financial year? We'd heard rumours but no official info.. .. .Spiney

I believe that there was an Airprox Report a few years ago where one of the recommendations was that ATC staff should have more Fam flights as lack of understanding of certain "aeroplane type". .things was a factor in the airmiss

For information , my employer operates a FAM flight scheme, which has been audited by ATSSD.. .ATC Liaison Visits to other ATSUs are recommended, and in some cases are required to be taken as part of TRUCE. For ATCO PPL holders there is an 'arrangement' for free landing fees at aerodromes operated by the company.. ....A clue to the employer & company, it operates 10 ADs, 2nd clue, non-state does not apply here.

I seem to recall reading a report that the FAA, following a recent incident, recommended that it's controllers receive more flying training. Once again NATS leads the world ... in being parsimonious, short term, 'cash is king', bean counting arseholes. When will the operators in this company stand up and tell the beancounters that enough is enough and to **** off ?
