Is it possible for a non radar, aerodrome & procedural app controller to offer "radar derived information" to an IFR a/c in good VMC?? Other traffic, 10 miles(apparently!).Single person operation,at night and in FIR...

Think you need to be more specific (without naming names or units.) In what circumstances?

I believe it would be okay as long as you made the pilot aware that the information was derived from the radar unit giving him/her the opportunity to freecall the radar unit to obtain a service if so requested " Nothing in this manual prevents controllers from using their own discretion and initiative in any particuliar circumstance"

I have done this myself at a previous unit, and would do it again.

If information provided by a radar unit indicates that an aircraft, be it IFR in good VMC or not, is in or about to be in a compromising position, then that falls into the category of "any other information pertinent to safety" under FIS.

You just have to make sure the boys in the a/c know that it's info from another unit. ie. "Information from London radar......."

Let's face it, you're not going to just sit on the info are you?. .Just think of the subsequent board of enquiry <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

We do it all the time, using the phraseology. ."Not identified, nor under radar service but.."

YES!, it is legal, as both Legs and 939 state, it's use of common sense and utilisation of all the equipment available.
