Hiya folks,

Just a quick question. I was wondering what is involved with gaining an A/G Licence. I have read the CAA website and it seems to imply that the Flight Radio Telephony Operators licence I have done for my PPL is sufficient to get me a Certificate of Competance, is this the case, and is this the same as an A/G Licence?

If not, how would I go about getting such a licence, and what are the costs invloved?

Many thanks,. .Rusty.

Im not sure about things after JAR,but certainly before your FCL would be sufficient to get a Certificate of Competence (Restricted), which is what you need to operate a radio.

If not, you will have to another short exam, which isn't too hard and im sure you'll pass.

Just a cautionary note...

Don't be fooled there are too many sh*t A/G radio operators in the world. You need to get a good grasp of CAP 352 (I think) and please DONT over step the mark, if you want to become a controler or FISO then do the exams. End of rant, end of broadcast.

Just out of interest, where are you intending to work?

Hope this helps

DC,

Many thanks for your reply, even if am qualified at present id still be more comfortable having sat the exam, and if I did it I would make sure I knew CAP 352.

Its nothing concrete yet, its just something id like to do, and something that might come in handy, I would like to get a job at a A/G station at some point in ops, while at University, as I understand it the licence is either a must or a great benefit.

I have no plans to work anywhere specific as yet. Thanks again.

Rusty.

Rusty. .. .Just do the standard Flight Crew radiotelephony licence at your local flying club and you should be able to have the Cert of Competence issued against that. I was able to when I did my FISO.
