Has anyone an inside edge on the job ad for Bristol that expires tomorrow (14th)?

Anything I should know in the event that I might need to know it?

Thanks in advance :)

Well, they've got a nice shiny new tower.

[Edited because I can't send you a private message - does anyone know why????]

Being rather more serious, what sort of stuff are you after - technical, social geographical?

Well they have got a nice new tower - I think it's in use now. It's got limited airspace around it and lots of distance through the FIR to get to or from an airway. The military play all around it as well as a lot of GA. It gets lots of overflying traffic because its stuck in between several other airports (Cardiff, Lyneham, Filton, Yeovilton) and has to get its traffic up and down through it. Not a place for the faint hearted on radar probably. Work H24. The people there always seem very friendly.

I think its trying to go Cat 3 at the moment - probably a good idea because its on top of a hill and sometimes sits in the clouds. Deals with an odd mix of aircraft - lots of 737s and 757s on IT charters, little Brymon (as they were) things and a bit of business traffic. New terminal a couple of years ago - makes it look like a real airport complete with all the delays.

Was owned by FirstBus but I think it got sold a few months back. It seems to have more managers than you can shake a stick at if you look at the annual report and stuff.

The area is fun. Good city life if you like that sort of thing and the city centre is only about 12 miles from the airport - easy journey if you're not doing it during the rush hour. Plenty of small towns and villages down in Somerset if you prefer that sort of thing. Taunton is only about 40 minutes drive. There's always Weston-super-Mare if you really can't think of anywhere else to go.

And ATC do a great cup of coffee. :p

Good luck if you need to know any of this stuff.

Has anyone heard anything yet? I am guessing that they are slow in getting back to people because of crimbo but it would be nice to know!

Thanks by the way NextLeft all good stuff, but as you say - is there no-one who works there gonna say anything?

Looks like the no reply rejection has spread to ATC. All for the cost of a stamp!

Don't fret too much Razor, the "H.R. Director" (personnel bod to you and I), seems to run a policy of keeping folk in the dark.
A colleague applied to them last year when they advertised, and was not advised in writing until 49 days after the closing date.
He had taken the initiative of ringing atc to find out that an appointment had already been made.

Makes you wonder doesn't it.

Do any of you really want to work for an operation that hasn't even got the good grace and manners to acknowledge your response to what was after all their invitation to apply.

Hardly a caring sharing company.

Well, that’s a month now since the closing date and still nothing.

So I rang the Personnel office and spoke to Helen Mills.

She says that a file was passed to Julian Andrews, Manager ATS and he hasn’t returned it yet, consequently they haven’t spoken to anyone and she didn’t know when they would.

Well, its been 5 1/2 weeks now, anyone bothered to try ringing personnel again? Anyone got the personnel number to save ringing them on the mediator line?. .Meanwhile life plods on somewhere west of the M5.

At the very least, bad manners - bordering on arrogance that no one from Bristol has bothered to get in touch with prospective candidates.

Finally got a letter from Bristol this morning. Almost a 6 week wait to be told "your application has been unsuccessful"!! Never mind. Anyone else had a better response??. .

I got an "unsuccessful" letter too. Seems a bit odd that they aren't even interviewing. There could only have been about half a dozen of us that meet all the requirements and surely they didn't appoint someone on the strength of a CV alone?????? My feeling is that we have been diddled and that the job was filled from within and the advert was just a formality. Didn't really want to work there anyway Highlands and Islands is so much nicer!!!!!!!

Better luck next time everyone.

Razors Edge

Mis-ident, my feelings exactly.

I too have been "unsuccessful" - still, going back to an earlier Spoonbill posting, at least they only took 41 days to tell us this time.

Shame, they have no idea what they're missing.. .

Well, I know of another two who applied and also were unsuccessful.

Inverted run, you mention right place and right time, but surely if there's an advert, then there's an intention to recruit/interview.

Razor did ring them so the whole thing is rather unsatisfactory don't you think?

. .edited due to new information - I've just heard of someone with an interview next month. Obviously in the right place at the right time . Know what I mean?

So Legs, just what do you mean. You're not trying to tell us that this person works there (or in that area maybe) already, are you?

Well good luck to them whoever they are, and I look forward to working with them in the future :) .

Going on the law of averages, about 7 or 8 people will have applied (one or more could be NERC trainees with ADC only, a lot of them are trying to get out at the moment from what I hear).. .I heard that one of the Sheffield people may have applied, don't know if it's true, but would fit if SY is on it's way out. Does anyone know how many got interviews, or is it just the one?

Lovely soup!

Well bless my soul.

Surprise surprise, I have now heard of another interviewee.

That's got to put the number of applicants up to 10ish.

Such a popular place, and such terrible manners.

Well how did the interviews go I wonder

My info was 1 male, 1 female don't know if that was all of them.

Maybe we'll find out soon.

Two hims - both with the ratings, one an ex member of staff looking to return from what I hear, one from up north (Sheffield perhaps?), don't know where. Be interesting to see who gets it and where the merry-go-round will start......

Razors Edge

Hmm, interesting...if the ex-member of staff gets it, then it's probably been a stitch up from the start.

If the one from "Sheffield?" gets it then the story will end there as Sheffield is APC only. Why would there be someone there with a radar ticket though??

You see Razor, that would explain why someone with a radar ticket would want out of SY, and that person could conceivably have applied to GD. I suppose we will know soon enough.
