UK CAA CPL need some help..!

Not sure if i posted at the right place..!

Anyway here is my problem i just sat for the uk caa cpl exam a week ago i don't think i did so well...My school in sri lanka is using 10 year old CPL book by R.B.Underdown..I find it extremely difficult and most of the questions in the radio..paper seems new.

1. Can any one tell me what books are used for the cpl course in UK..!
2. A place to get it online and shipped to sri lanka..!

Basically any help with CAA CPL past papaers etc..!

Would I be wrong to say that these days in order to sit the CPL exams, one must have completed a course of study at an approved FTO (modular or integrated)?

The UK CPL exams were withdrawn in 2002!

I'm in Sri Lanka so the problem is even though we get the UK cpl we are not bound by the rules of the CAA(:( ) So i get sub par training for something like 1/4 price which means i have to make up for it by at least twice the amount of work..that's why..!

There are no heli schools in my island:O ,Only the air force does that kind of tranning..!

I have a question,if the uk caa cpl has been stoped sence 2002 what have we been doing all this time...?I did 7 modules this term.


1.Meterology practicals.
2.Human performance & limitations.
3.Radio aids.
4.Instruments.
5.Navigation.
6.Meterology theroy.
7.Flight planning.

Have we been doing the JAA syllabus....and buy the way pilot bear that web link you gave me has no trainning matter in it.?

BlueLine has given you a correct statement, the UK CPL exams were withdrawn in June 2002, I was one of the last people to complete those exams. It has been Jaa Since.

Those modules look very much like those that I took, they do cover the same material in part as the JAA however the JAA has additional /different formats so you need to do detailed research

thanks for the info. I'm not sure what you are currently being taught but I passed my JAA CPL(H) (frozen ATPL) in April. The theory side however is taken at ATPL level, enabling you to gain ATPL status with the required IR and hours:( which will be fairly tough to achieve!!

I understand that the UK CAA have recognized the above dilema and are considering re-introducing the CPL(H) theory, where a student is only required to take 10 modules (not sure which subjects) instead of the current 14 modules for ATPL, not sure if this will help in your case?

I think i will contact the CAA and try to find out what i did.

Does anybody know a good online shop where i can purchase some upto date books.For those subjects i mentioned above..!

Believe the question has been answered a few times. Do understand t could be an interpretation thing however. There is not any single source in the UK for the ATPL exams.

To obtain our fATPL or CPL/IR we went to a school which provided us with a distance learning course OR a full time school based course.

That course can only be provided from a JAA approved school registered for the purpose of providing these courses and the materials within that course are inspected by the CAA to ensure that the content/depth etc are suitable for the purpose.

If you wish material to help you just type in JAA ATPL exams in google if you want a course then go online and search for a school which is registered for the purpose.

I have no vested interest and cannot say that they are better or worse as I only did the course once.

The course however was excellent and comes on CD and folders so that you can choose your preferred method. I chose this self study method and took about 16 weeks to complete the 14 exams but that was hard going about 14 hours a day 7 days a week. The support was excellent. I must say one thing that is I have never met anyone civil or military, rotary or fixed who did not think the Bristol course was excellent and I think it would take a brave man to say that about a many other schools.
