I came across this article, "Changing Your Bird's Personality" (http://www.airbum.com/articles/ArticleACCHanges.html), and thought that I should post the link here for consideration.

I believe that the author makes a valid point: for the great majority of student pilots, their instruction is not sufficient to prepare them for typical challenges of 'real world' recreational flying in a heavily loaded airplane, especially in unfamiliar surroundings.

Students get what they pay for, usually.

What they often don't get, is what they are promised.

Some students get confused between the two - I feel sorry for those ones, but there's not much I can do for them.

It's good the article finishes with an encouragement to get some dual experience on a variety of strips - that would seem to fix the problem you allude to. The others will just have to do performance charts and believe the results!

What's the accident rate amongst inexperienced recreational pilots on bush strips in Canada?
