When I did the course it was 25 hrs dual flying, 5 hours mutual (with other FI student), 125 hrs ground school, Followed by a flight test and lecture and oral exam. Costs around £5000-5500 all in. Takes 4 weeks.

AOPA sell a book containing the Syllabus for the FI(R) course. Most courses are based upon this syllabus.

In essence, you complete the PPL course again from the right hand seat learning how to teach each exercise in the PPL syllabus. The FIC instructor gives you the Exercise as if you were a PPL student. You then give the same exercise back to the FIC instructor, ideally on the next flight. In addition to the 30 hours flying, 125 hours is allocated to groundschool where you learn how to teach and practice giving pre-flight briefings and lectures.
