Today at manch, we had two flights [co-incidentally BY/BAL] one was xxxP and t'other was xxxF
No one in the Tower knew the difference between "Positioning and Ferry".
Can anyone shed any light on the difference [if any]?

Semi informed guess:
P Positioning either to do a flight or returning empty having done a flight. With an emphasis on the immediacy(?sp) of doing or having done a flight, probably with the same crew.
F Ferry just the act of shifting an aircraft from one base to another.
Dunno about the F my company, which you may know, use K, don't ask don't know

Yep, to day we had an A310 "positioning" having done a BWI schedule on a BWI[P] c/s.
The two BAL/BY a/c were BAL/BY
