Birmingham fog bound

Crawling along the M42 tonight in the fog, listening to RT traffic at Brum, and a few questions raised. What were the three sets of RVR figures the pilots were requesting?
Why would some aircraft be able to land, yet others would try an approach and go around, then eventually divert to Stanstead, poor ******s.

Approach end, mid-point & stop end RVRs.

Vis can be subject to quite rapid change so one a/c can get visual whilst the next one doesn't. Some a/c have equipment for low-vis ops., others don't.
